Adam Pavitt Live
got in super early and helped set up the stage and wild props tha Moogie had built (she constantly out-does herself with costumes and props). the Arena had a nice big stage and the sound was pretty big. Matto was in oz and it was great to see him. he had some rope tricks going on to help hoist our volunteer human canvases upside down by the feet during the show while dressed as killer whales. Sundari and i had massive harpoons with paint brushes in the end of them to paint these human canvases.
there were two other painters on the night as well. chilling backstage was great ,as there were heaps of Sea Sheperd crew hanging about as well as the good old Red Paintings regulars. i got to meet Paul Watson (captain of Sea Sheperd) and wish him luck for the campaign.my set was short, but sweet, with a good response and a nice chance to tell people a few stats about veganism as well as some of my experiences being vegan. my brother Shane and his mate Rodger dashed backstage to wish me well and then it was time for the costume change from Hawaiian shirt to demon fisherman ,red face paint and wig action. the show had a mad intensity about it and i was full of creative energy onstage. the band was kickin and jamie was putting on a huge show, really feeling it! in the second set i switched to water-colour and charcoal (which was sold to raise campaign money later) and Opera Man had a mad improvisation with the band, it sounded massive, all these different frequencies bouncing off each other.
Paul Watson came onstage for a speech…it was one of the most inspiring speeches i have ever heard and i was definitely close to tears…the fact that Russian whalers were killing these beautiful creatures for oil to create NUCLEAR WEAPONS just made me sad and furious. at that moment though, i knew i was in the right place and being part of such a inspiring group of people focused on doing good things for the planet made me very happy. over 6000 dollars was raised on the night, with more no doubt donated via the web.please spread the message and let us end whaling forever!
Peace, Adz
