Here goes…the lead up was intense with two weeks of solid work….then as i left work at 3pm, the phone started to buzz away as the well wishes and organizational calls started to arrive…it was intense to be in 20 minds at once. trying to get every detail of the show to fall into place. then when i got onstage, it was finally time to relax. i had alot of players from the album who are great to play music with, because they are so darn good at it and so very passionate aswell! so we kicked out the jams, got some grooves goin and even got a crew dancing for an extended version of ‘Ashes’. i was very stoked with the turn out of friends and their associates. it was a bit of a word of mouther as the press thing didn’t happen, basically because i have only just got my own computer..and despite my persistance..
i still type at around 15 words a minute and i find sending group emails a challenge to say the very least. tah for those of you getting emails and correspondance off me for not havng ago at my briefness and lower-case text message-like messages. anyhow, the venue was really nice, set up with candles on the tables, a fire and nice wall papering…., i hung 2 umbrellas, 2 paintings, had 2 modified plastic trees, 2 beach balls, 2 great support acts, 2 film clips show, 2 expressive dancers, a full run through of the album track for track and an encore after all that. i was overwhelmed and really happy to have the support of my family, friends and everyone there on the night……so now the forward momentum must be maintained as i try to navigate online distribution and promotion…. it’s all new to me, and yet i am proud of the music and will give it my best to share the music with as many people as possible.
the cd has my artwork in there and a real personal flavour that differs from what i have been playing live, busking and from what my old band The Deconsummers used to belt out. the next album solo is alredy mapped out, due to the first one taking so long to incubate. we live and learn about the steps…thinking aloud on this one is allowed i think. it’s like the personal has to be aired, so the public can get that outta the way. my buddy once said that he has to take the bedroom onto the stage with him, so he can become that guy strumming guitar ,puorin his heart out like no one’s listening. this personal feeling is the real deal. just close your eyes, then sing! on the sunny side of a winter’s day, well i hope you decide, you decide to stay
No Arms…..
This was the second film-clip that Stefan Ehrenfeld and i worked on from my new album. It was a steep learning cure as our budget nearly could be described as non-existent.We experimented with the alot of effects and wanted to try and convey a strong message using simple communicative imagery. The song was always a protest at how far we have let war and conflict be accepted and thought of as a regular part of the world we live in. War needs to be abolished as way of resolving issues. War brings no resolve, only loss.
There is hope with the US and Russia holding talks to discus phasing out each of their nuclear arsenals. The rest of us hold our collective breath….and continue to ask for a world without weapons and war!

Launching my album ‘Seasons Will Pass’….. Great night planned with support from Katt Beames, Jim Green and special guests…Debut of two filmclips from the album… .performance artists and art installations
Well its all happening with two new videos for the album. Stefan and I have been putting them together and it has been hard work and yet fun too. He is great to work with, as we are on the same page most of the time and it really is a great creative partnership. we have worked on a surrealist comic before and laughed our heads off the entire time. this time the learning curve has been a bit steeper. there has been alot of trail and error with different programs and equipment, plus our budget was the same as the cost of a bag of peanuts…. go crazy!
one of the videos is for Seasonal Pass, and is like a memory of the seasons changing. there is some nice footage of some of the crew Matto, Chien, Hugh, Stefan and Myself chilling at the beach. we got some nice photos and layed them up with footage to create a dreamy feel. then we went out and i sang the song a few times infront of this wierd mural infront of a vetinary clinic. the mural has a cute yellow bird, strange dogs and even a cat with an eye patch! we spiced that footage with some other street footage and a huge solo mash-up. we have used a bit of comedy in the clip too… just as i am about to be a guitar hero i throw my coat off and start ripping the solo in the rain…ha ha!
the second video that we are working on is for No Arms, a more ambitious piece, as we have gone almost full blue screen. it was all ‘do it yourself’ style and we started off using blue shower curtains. the best thing about this one is it looks great and the message of te song comes through strongly. just as Australia is about to boost it’s military spend through the fricken roof….i want to get this to as many people as possible! i got Paula (Stefan’s wife) who is pregnant to act in the video with me. i think the symbolism of a pregnant woman and the destructive mess of war is very powerful. hopefully it will have an impact on those who see it and maybe in some way make the world a better place….. who knows? i just know war and more arms is not the answer.
so…. the vids will be online really soon and i will be showing them at my launch, which i am in the process of booking.
keep well Adz
What an amazing show in Brisland.
got in super early and helped set up the stage and wild props tha Moogie had built (she constantly out-does herself with costumes and props). the Arena had a nice big stage and the sound was pretty big. Matto was in oz and it was great to see him. he had some rope tricks going on to help hoist our volunteer human canvases upside down by the feet during the show while dressed as killer whales. Sundari and i had massive harpoons with paint brushes in the end of them to paint these human canvases.
there were two other painters on the night as well. chilling backstage was great ,as there were heaps of Sea Sheperd crew hanging about as well as the good old Red Paintings regulars. i got to meet Paul Watson (captain of Sea Sheperd) and wish him luck for the campaign.my set was short, but sweet, with a good response and a nice chance to tell people a few stats about veganism as well as some of my experiences being vegan. my brother Shane and his mate Rodger dashed backstage to wish me well and then it was time for the costume change from Hawaiian shirt to demon fisherman ,red face paint and wig action. the show had a mad intensity about it and i was full of creative energy onstage. the band was kickin and jamie was putting on a huge show, really feeling it! in the second set i switched to water-colour and charcoal (which was sold to raise campaign money later) and Opera Man had a mad improvisation with the band, it sounded massive, all these different frequencies bouncing off each other.
Paul Watson came onstage for a speech…it was one of the most inspiring speeches i have ever heard and i was definitely close to tears…the fact that Russian whalers were killing these beautiful creatures for oil to create NUCLEAR WEAPONS just made me sad and furious. at that moment though, i knew i was in the right place and being part of such a inspiring group of people focused on doing good things for the planet made me very happy. over 6000 dollars was raised on the night, with more no doubt donated via the web.please spread the message and let us end whaling forever!
Peace, Adz
